1. A million miles away

Majid Mirhashmi

Maryam works at a company where Sultan "the Afghan" is the janitor and guardian of the company. The company is located in a city in Iran where it is illegal for Afghans to enter and they will be deported if arrested. A person jumps over the company wall, but the Sultan, who is afraid of being deported, fails to catch him and accuses Maryam of having a relationship with the person. Maryam, who is in trouble due to pressure from the Sultan and his brother, decides to resolve the problem of the distance in opinion between them by calling the police and deporting Sultan.

Majid Mirhashmi

I'm Majid Mirhashmi, an independent filmmaker from Iran. This is my second film. My first film was called Quarantine, and it participated in many international festivals. The issue of women has always been one of the world's basic concerns, and especially if you live in Iran, the issue of women's rights can be one of the priorities a citizen must address. In the first film, I finished the script with a story about a woman who is oppressed in the face of oppression, but in this film, there's an outburst in the final minutes, and it's a radical outburst against the positions of those who don't see women as human beings. I studied at Tehran University of Sciences and Research, earning a master's degree in welding engineering. But my interest in the humanities, stories, and cinema made me a filmmaker.
