JAVIER TOLENTINO

President of the Official Section Jury

He has directed some of the most charismatic news programs on radio (Siete días, Informe Abierto, La Jornada, El Ciempiés). He is the creator, founder, and director of El Otro Cine Posible (Radio 5) and El Séptimo Vicio (Radio 3), for which he has won accolades such as the Critics' Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the San Sebastian Film Festival, among others.

Official Section Jury

Programming Director of the Filmoteca de Navarra. He holds a PhD in Communication from the University of Navarra. A member of the translation team for the Larousse Dictionnaire du Cinéma, he has worked as a film critic for various media outlets and has served on the jury at several film festivals and competitions.

MAITE IRISO

Official Section Jury

A graduate in Labor Sciences and a Social Graduate, she is the Regional Director of the Spanish Red Cross Employment Plan in Navarre. She works to integrate disadvantaged individuals, empowering and strengthening their employability to better position them for employment, regardless of their origin, gender, and/or age.

MERCEDES ÁLVAREZ

Official Section Jury

Filmmaker and film professor on the Master's in Creative Documentary at Pompeu Fabra University. El cielo gira (2005), her first feature film, received unanimous critical acclaim and numerous international awards at competitions such as the Tiger Awards (Rotterdam), the Cinéma du Réel (Paris), and BACIFI (Buenos Aires). In 2013, she created 25% Catalonía at Venice with artist Françes Torres to represent Catalonia at the Venice Biennale.

RUTH GUTIÉRREZ

Jurado Sección Oficial

Professor of Screenwriting and Epistemology at the Faculty of Communication at the University of Navarra. A specialist in poetics, myth, and heroism, she earned her doctorate with a thesis on the heroic in John Ford's cinema. She has also taught at the School of Social and Media Culture in Torun and on the Screenwriting Diploma at the University of La Sabana.

SCREENPLAY COMPETITION JURY

The call is part of the shared commitment of Estudios Melitón and NIFF to make it easier for audiovisual professionals to develop the entire creative process without having to leave the Autonomous Community: from their training to the production and exhibition of their work.

Silver Horse at the Larissa New Filmmakers Festival (Greece). He has collaborated with the San Sebastián International Film Festival as a radio scriptwriter and is a film critic for various media outlets and specialized magazines.

PhD in Communication from the University of Navarra. He directs the Master's Degree in Audiovisual Scriptwriting (MGA) at the Faculty of Communication. His main area of ​​expertise is audiovisual fiction scriptwriting. He provides script consulting for various production companies and individual scriptwriters.

Screenwriting Competition Jury

Screenwriter and documentary filmmaker for film and television. Creator of Perdida (2019), he is also known for his work on Spanish series and films such as Caronte (2019), Vivir sin Permiso (2018), and Jefe (2018), for which he was nominated for the Goya Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

PILAR CASTRO

Screenwriting Competition Jury

Film, theater, and television actress. She won two Silver Biznagas at the Málaga Film Festival for the short films Test (2007) and El premio (2010). In 2010, she was nominated for a Goya Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Gordos (2009). In her latest film, Ventajas de Viajar en Tren (Advantages of Traveling by Train), she was nominated for Best Actress at the Forqué Awards.

SUSANA HERRERAS

Screenwriting Competition Jury

Executive producer and editorial head of original fiction production at Movistar+ since 2015. Previously, she was head of fiction at Canal+ and content development at Sogecine. She is an advisor on the "Cinema Crossing Borders" program by the Fundación Autor at the Havana Film Festival and BAM (Bogotá Audiovisual Market), among others.

NAVARRA FILM CHALLENGE JURY

The NIFF Festival is launching the Navarra Film Challenge, inviting submissions to create an express short film. Those interested in participating can use any available medium, from a mobile phone to a professional camera; there are no technical limitations. The length of the piece must be between 2 and 5 minutes.

Filmmaker and journalist, she holds a postgraduate degree in Creative Documentary from EICTV (San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba) and a master's degree in Feminist Studies (UB). A partner at CIMA and NAPAR, she is part of the production company Haruru Filmak (Pamplona).

Navarra Film Challenge Jury

Director of the Navarra International Film Festival. He runs his own production company, Arquetipo Comunicación, with which he has produced Caminante, Sarasate, El Rey del Violín, and Basque Selfie. He is currently a founding partner and CEO of Estudios Melitón (the first film studios in Navarra), as well as Meliton Films.

RODRIGO SOPEÑA

Navarra Film Challenge Jury

Director and screenwriter—along with Luis Piedrahita—of the film Fermat's Room. He has also directed highly successful entertainment programs with José Mota (La1) and the first seasons of Me Resbala (A3). As a screenwriter, he has recently published the comic El Último Gahúr (The Last Gambler).

SANDRA AGUERRI

Navarra Film Challenge Jury

Actress, playwright, and theater director. Professor at the Navarra School of Theater. Trained at the Navarra School of Theater, the creative laboratory of Mar Navarro and Andrés Hernández, the Madrid School of Film and Audiovisual (ECAM), and Studio Schinca.

TERESA MORALES

Navarra Film Challenge Jury

In 2010, she joined Telecinco Cinema as Marketing Director, until she returned to her homeland in 2018 to take over as Executive Director of the Punto de Vista Festival and join the Navarra Film Commission team.

QUARANTINE FILM CHALLENGE JURY

The NIFF Festival invites participants to create a short film about the current global pandemic. Those interested in participating, including film professionals and enthusiasts with a keen eye for creating audiovisual pieces, can use any available medium, from a mobile phone to a professional camera; there are no technical limitations.

He has written and directed short films with social themes. He currently works at Estudios Melitón as a Location Manager and Coordinator for the Navarra International Film Festival. He is also a Teaching Support Person at the University of Navarra for Film and TV Directing and Production.

He participated in the filming of the series 3 Caminos. He is an Assistant Director at Estudios Melitón and works in the production and coordination of the film workshops "Filming in Navarra with Asghar Farhadi," "Filming in Navarra with Oliver Laxe," and the Navarra International Film Festival.

In 2011, he founded his own production company, Dynamite Films. He has participated in workshops such as Berlinale Talents, IDFA Academy, and Torino Feature Lab. His projects have garnered more than 150 awards and have been selected at prestigious festivals such as the Semaine de la Critique at the Cannes Film Festival, the Goya Awards, and the San Sebastian Film Festival. He is also a partner at Estudios Melitón.

PhD in Contemporary History from the University of Barcelona. Editor of the magazine, collaborating professor in the Master's Degree in Film and Contemporary History. Professor of Film and Gender within the Postgraduate Program in Film and History. She teaches history in high school.

WORKSHOP CONTEST JURY

A selection of short films shot by participants in the workshop "Filming in Navarre with Olivex Laxe." The films will be screened at Pamplona Cathedral in a special session with a workshop presentation and refreshments.

ITZIAR ITUÑO

Workshop Contest Jury

Godmother of the Navarra International Film Festival. Actress and singer. Born in Bilbao. Popular on TV for Goenkale (the longest-running soap opera in the Basque Country), she made her mark in 2014 with her work in Loreak by Jon Garaño and José Mari Goenaga, and in 2017 with Money Heist, an Antena 3 series later acquired by Netflix. The artist has also participated in several theater productions. In the musical field, she has appeared as a vocalist in Dangiliske, EZ3, and INGOT. She recently hosted the Basque Film and ETB Gala at the 65th San Sebastian Film Festival.

Workshop Contest Jury

He holds a diploma in editing from the ECAM (National University of Catalonia). He holds a degree in sociology from the UPNA (National University of Catalonia). He has worked for a decade as an editor and post-production coordinator. He combines his professional work with teaching. His work has been selected for more than 200 international film festivals, including Cannes, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

DANIEL CASTRO

Workshop Contest Jury

He has worked as a screenwriter for television series. Ilusión (2013), his first feature film as both director and lead actor, won a dozen international awards, including the Silver Biznaga for Best Film in the ZonaZine section of the 2013 Málaga Film Festival and Best First Feature at the Nantes Spanish Film Festival.

LOLA MAYO

​President of the Workshop Contest Jury

Screenwriter, producer, and film professor. She has won the Queen Sofía Journalism Award. She directs the Feminist Documentary Creation Lab at the Francesca Bonnemaison Center in Barcelona. She is a programmer for the DocumentaMadrid and Alcine festivals. She currently teaches in the Cine en Curso program, which teaches film in public schools.

DAVID ILUNDAIN

Workshop Contest Jury

He holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Navarra. He furthered his film studies at the International School of Film and TV in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. He directed B, the film, nominated in three categories at the Goya Awards and winner of the Special Feroz Award. His latest film, Uno Para Todos, will be released in 2020.

ARTURO CISNEROS

President of the Film Promotion Jury

Manager of CLAVNA, cultural producer and consultant, film producer, and music promoter with over twenty years of experience in the field of contemporary cultural production and distribution. A cultural entrepreneur with international experience, particularly in Latin America, he specializes in the creation, management, executive, and technical production of cultural projects in the fields of audiovisual arts, music, and performing arts. He directed and produced El Olvido de la Memoria (The Forgotten Memory) in 1999, the documentary Bagdad Rap (Baghdad Rap) in 2005, Sé donde está el dinero mamá (I Know Where the Money Is, Mom) in 2015, and the web series The Astronaut (The Astronaut) in 2016.

ANDREA JAURRIETA

Film Promotion Jury

Andrea Jaurrieta (Pamplona, ​​1986). Director and screenwriter. Her debut feature, Ana de día (2018), which she also produced, participated in more than 30 national and international festivals, winning 11 awards, culminating in her nomination for Best New Director at the 33rd Goya Awards in 2019. Her short films have been selected for numerous national and international festivals, and some of her video installations and video creations have been exhibited in various Spanish cultural institutions. In 2015, she was awarded the director's meritorious position in the film Julieta for Pedro Almodóvar. Her projects have received grants from the Royal Spanish Academy in Rome, the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, and the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts. She holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the Complutense University of Madrid, where she was recognized with the award for Best Director of her class. She also holds a Master's degree in Film Directing from ESCAC (National Academy of Arts) and a diploma in Dramatic Arts from the William Layton Laboratory. She combines her film projects with her work as a professor of Film History, Acting, and Directing at various specialized schools and universities in Madrid.

STEPHANIE MUTSAERTS

Film Promotion Jury

Stephanie Mutsaerts is a Canadian from Vancouver who ended up in Pamplona twenty-five years ago by chance. With an academic background in humanities, she dedicated more than twelve years to teaching English at the Public University of Navarra until she decided to start two companies: "Heart of Pamplona" for tourist apartments and "Northern Spain Travel", an inbound travel agency that plans and guides travelers throughout the local area with a deep understanding of the local environment and culture. She also provides local production support services for location scouting and addressing language barriers.

Film Promotion Jury

A graduate in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Navarra and a Master of Business Administration from the Chamber of Commerce of Navarra, she has worked at the INAAC Foundation (Institute of Audiovisual Arts and Cinematography) since 2011. Since 2014, she has been the Director of the Navarra Film Commission, an office dedicated to developing the audiovisual sector in the region and attracting filming to the region.

MIGUEL ÁNGEL CARRERO

Film Promotion Jury

He graduated as an Industrial Engineer with a specialty in "Electronics, Automation, and Systems Engineering" from the Public University of Navarra. He continued his studies with a Master's in Business Administration, in addition to several related courses. Since October 2017, he has been a Partner and Advisor at Estudios Melitón and Melitón Films.
