WORKSHOP CONTEST 2019

The works participating in this section of the festival will compete for the Melitón Workshop Contest for the best work produced in the annual Estudios Melitón workshop. €1,000

The section will include a selection of the 16 finalist films shot by the 40 students who participated in the filmmaking workshop "Filming in Navarre with Asghar Farhadi," taught by the Iranian filmmaker from May 30 to June 8 at the Melitón Studios on the Lekaroz Business Campus in northern Navarre.

Jose and Maria are an elderly couple who have lived together in their house for a lifetime. Every day, Maria gets up before Jose and helps him with the small daily tasks that are becoming more complicated for him. Everything goes on as usual until Jose hears a song that reminds him of his past and leaves the house without warning. Maria goes looking for him and finds a surprise that takes her back to her past.

Jose Miguel had a truck accident that cost him a leg, but his zest for life enabled him not only to walk again, but also to ride his bike over the toughest mountain passes in Spain and France.

Jesus, an elderly man who has worked in the fields his entire life, is forced to say goodbye to the only thing he has left in the world: his little dog. After handing him over to his new owner, he sets off for the place where he will be welcomed and spend the rest of his life. Once in his new home, Jesus realizes what his new life alone entails.

Saioa and her mother, Ana Mari, go to the church in Lekaroz, Baztán, to pray to Our Lady of the Rosary, as they do every week. Saioa translates what Ana Mari asks of Our Lady because she's deaf (her mother, not the Virgin). But Ana Mari wants Saioa to ask for something too... Saioa refuses at first, but soon takes the plunge and does it of her own accord. Will Our Lady be receptive?

Participants in a film workshop take photos in various locations in order to find an image that sparks their imagination and serves as a starting point for writing their own stories. A girl watches as a classmate steals a figurine from a palace they are visiting. Driven by curiosity, she follows his classmates' steps until, finally, the two begin to talk.

A professor of screenwriting at the University of Navarra (UN), Pablo Echart directed the Master's in Audiovisual Screenwriting at the UN between 2010 and 2015. He has written a feature-length script thanks to a scholarship from the BBVA Foundation. He is the author of the book "Romantic Comedy in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s" (Editorial Cátedra).

A TV director and screenwriter, he specializes in comedy and entertainment (José Mota, El club de la comedia...). He co-wrote and directed the film "Fermat's Room" (2007) with Luis Piedrahita. He currently directs the series "Club Houdini" for Disney Channel and won the 2019 GAVA Award for Best TV Director.
